What we do
With “New City,” we develop ideas based on the city and the knowledge germain to it; we produce extensive projects that intertwine urbanism, art and education.
Our activities are focused in three main areas: expanding our ‘school’ activities to additional cities, research and development of the ‘lesson’ as an intimate interaction which is at the heart of our activity, and creating a broad network of contacts and extensive discussion on innovative ideas related to theoretic and practical study with new collaborators. We offer companies, organizations and groups to take part in our activities – workshops, lectures and cultural days – that rely on our extensive knowledge base and network of contacts that we have assembled in our years of activities.
Background
The “New City” was born as a theoretical and multidisciplinary project combining urban considerations along with a unique concept of education and learning today – which is to say, creating an inseparable bond between city and education. With the development of the idea, our desire to materialize these projects in the city and offer participants a living model arose.
Thus we created a space for testing and developing the theoretical concept alongside its execution.
We established the “New City” in 2008 out of a desire to link the city to education. Two years later we realized its first practical manifestation, “New City Bat-Yam”, where we set up a framework across the city of tens of free classes in which dozens of local residents participated as teachers and hundreds took part as students.
In 2013 and 2015, we ran "Metropolis", a new school of art, in two Tel Aviv neighborhoods – Kiryat Hamelacha and Montefiore, respectively.
Who we are
The “New City,” team is made up creative personalities from various cultural fields: architecture, curating, art, design, photography and writing. This team is our driving force. We involve other collaborators, on a per project basis, at three levels of participation: the first level is made up of creative types with shared knowledge relevant to the project taking place; the second level includes dozens of "collaborating teachers" with whom we form a partnership and work together to create practical interest in the project and the lesson which they will conduct. This network of “collaborating teachers” operates the project.
The final and broadest level of collaboration is made up of the hundreds of people participating in each project, who also help us draw conclusions for future projects, by generously providing feedback on the project and the specific meetings in which they have attended.
