We create projects of dozens of direct encounters, enabling people to share content, ideas, knowledge and experience; all those join into a new and free framework for education and learning in the city.

The use of this means to share knowledge found in the city makes people meet, broadens activity on the streets and develops a new communal network in neighborhoods, which revolves around art, education and learning.

The project participants are city residents who teach and study in private and public spaces in the city.

In 2008 we founded New City as a collaborative thought of artists about how the city may be reconnected to education and learning.

In 2010, the idea was realized for the first time and became a practical project which may be implemented in any city. An open framework of free courses on various issues was established in the city, open for the public.

Two years ago, “Metropolis”, the new art “school”, was established in Tel Aviv as a free and nonhierarchical framework, where local artists offer the public art classes in their studios.

2015 > Metropolis is to be reopened in Tel Aviv this May.

We are planning to expand our activity to additional cities.

How do we establish a new school in the city?

New City allows various new forms of education in the city.

By redefining space, teachers, students and the structure of a class, we offer participating cities and their residents a live-and-kicking alternative to studies and to school, unrelated to age or previous background.

The school is embroidered in the city and from its residents: creating a nonhierarchical system (of teachers and students) connects them to each other and to the project as a whole. Using our accumulated knowledge, we identify and collect activities in the city which may be integrated in the school and interest or contribute to its various residents, teachers as well as students.

Following our project presentation to potential teachers, we are working on a curriculum designed according to the municipal spaces used as classrooms: each class takes place in a space suited for its content.
